Bahama Mama

Hi everyone! I didn't want there to be so much time between posts, but we were on vacation! We had a fabulous, relaxing adventure in the Bahamas. We stayed in Nassau right near the port at the British Colonial Hilton. We spent most of the vacation relaxing on the beach while very nice waitresses brought us daquiri's and sandwiches! Paradise!

Our beach was small and sandy, not nearly as fabulous as the Florida beaches we have been spoiled with, but it certainly did it's job!

One of our favorite days was spent snorkeling. Our boat took us to two reefs and a shark feed. The reefs were shallow and full of colorful fish. The water was fairly chilly, but we survived without wet suits. Nate was really excited by everything. It was a lot of fun to watch him learn to do something that has been such a fun part of my life!

The highlight of the trip was the shark feed! Chum buckets were down below attracting the sharks and the brave, like Nate, went out on a line too look down at the swarm. After all of the snorklers were back on board the boat, they brought the bucket up and fed them from the boat. They were Caribbean Reef Sharks and pretty large. Many of them looked to be at least 6 feet. You can see them swarming around the boat in this picture.

We also spent a day over at Atlantis. They have a really fun aquarium with a large manta ray named Zues. He was only a year old and already getting too big for the tanks.

Nate and I (mostly Nate) really enjoyed the opportunity to partake in Cuban cigars. We bought a few from the Straw Market to start. We thought they were amazing, but then we had dinner at the Graycliff. We got a freshly handrolled cigar with dinner. It was the perfect cigar. Velvety smooth and not at all abrasive. The smell was even pleasant! As you can see, Nate was extremely happy with the selection of cigars!

We ate tons of sea food, of varying types from snapper to conch, but the best was from the Poop Deck. We had the most amazing and completely fresh snapper that just melted in our mouths.

But, at the end of the day, the best thing we got from our trip to the islands was a chance to get away from reality and RELAX! This past year has just been far too stressful and we really needed a break from reality. We had gotten so stressed we were having trouble completing normal, everyday tasks like taking out the trash and doing the dishes. So, we're back, we're relaxed, and we're very unhappy that we aren't millionaires that can do this all the time!
