Drying Out
Fay has FINALLY left us! What a storm she was! It rained every day, most days without stopping, from Monday to Saturday. Xander and I watched the rain pooling in our yard and kept checking to make sure it wasn't coming into the house, and it was the final two days of off and on raining that almost did us in! Luckily Nate came home on Friday, bought some PVC pipe and drain supplies and put in a drain on Saturday morning. The heavy rains from Fay's tail on Saturday brought the water up to the edge of our porch, but once the drain was opened it immediately relieved the water! We are very proud of Nate's ingenious and very cheap little drain!
While Xander and I were stuck inside all week we had a great opportunity to bond. He and I are like two peas in a pod as it is, but I have been overwhelmed by exclusive motherhood lately, and I have found myself more frustrated than happy. I noticed more and more that the calm patience I used to have had been replaced by a short temper. I kept trying to find ways to spend time away from the little guy, but in the end it seems I needed just the opposite! After a few days stuck together with no where to go we fell into an old rhythm that I missed so much! And I'm so glad to be taking another job because the last few months of exclusive stay-at-home mom have proven to me what I feared all along- that I really need something that is exclusively mine to maintain my sense of self. My new job is a telecommuting job that is right up my alley and only requires a few hours a week, so I am very hopeful that this will end up being a job that pads our income while giving me something to focus on!
In other good news brought on by the disastrous Fay, Nate worked non-stop all week! He was out of our hair and making connections while driving all over the state. It was a great week for his truck and we are very much looking forward to repeat business!
Now that the sun is out and the humidity is so oppressive that we still can't really spend too much time outside, we are taking turns pampering ourselves and recovering from the draining week we just had!

Thanks for your words...they mean a lot to me! If you guys are ever in St. Augustine, give us a call. Even if it is just Karis and I it would be so fun to meet you somewhere. Hey if all my blog were accomplishing was encouraging you, it would be TOTALLY, TOTALLY worth it. I would continue writing for an audience of just you! :-)
